What do I do now I’ve got a website?
You’re the proud owner of a shiny new website, so that’s it - you don’t have to do anything else, right? No, not quite. We have already talked about keeping your content fresh and up-to-date, and making sure that everything you put in the page is ‘right’, but what else is there? Behind the scenes, there are lots of technical things that keep moving on. We all know that the internet and the technology that drives the web is constantly evolving, and getting behind can mean the difference between a site that works for you, or against you.
Under The Bonnet
Let’s use buying a car as an analogy as there are so many similarities. You take delivery of your lovely new car from the dealership, and start driving around - it’s fun and everyone admires your new toy - rather like having a new website. But after a while, your car needs a service to keep all the moving parts in tip-top condition; your engine software might need an update, or you might need a new air filter. Well, websites are pretty much the same. Your website will keep working, but sometimes your Perch software might need to be updated, or the PHP (the stuff that makes it all chug along) might need an upgrade to keep the website loading quickly and working optimally.
Keeping Your FarOffice website in tip-top condition might not be the first thing you think of when you take delivery of it, but it’s good to plan ahead. So, we’ve made it easy. You can take out our monthly maintenance plan, which gives you free Perch and PHP upgrades* for the duration of your plan, along with 30 minutes of phone, skype or email support for any questions you may have about your new website. We don’t send you an annual reminder, like an MOT, but if you want to keep your site up to date outside of the maintenance plan, just ask and we will provide you with a list of any update work that needs to be done and how much it will cost.
*Your site may be running on PHP and the versions of that are regularly updated and upgraded, both to improve security and speed too. If you have a Perch CMS, the versions are updated constantly, to improve the content management, usability and to bring in new features. All of these things need to be updated on a regular basis to keep your site working optimally.
Our monthly maintenance plan gives you two options, depending on what support you’re looking for.
Option 1 gives Perch and PHP updates, along with 30 minutes of phone, skype or email support for any questions you may have about your website. £15 per month.
Option 2 gives Perch and PHP updates for your website. £10 per month.
It’s easy - we’ll send you a monthly invoice, and your support agreement will run from the first of the month to the last day of the month. As a welcome treat, support on any days running up to the first of the month when you begin your agreement with us will be included as a bonus.
Need A New Developer?
Sometimes, you fall out of touch with your previous developer, sometimes things go wrong and it may be that your developer just isn’t there any more. Here at FarOffice we have helped out a number of clients who needed to update or revamp their websites and we’re happy to consider taking on existing websites.
Bear in mind that, as technology changes so rapidly, your site may need extensive work to bring it up-to-date, to make it responsive (work properly on tablets and mobiles) or to bring the underlying software up to current standards.
